Bruce Hornsby Anthology
Published in Paperback by Warner Brothers Publications (July, 1994)
Average review score:

years of funTwo years ago, my folks shipped me my piano, and, after years of non-activity, I have started playing again. This was one of the first books that I bought, and though I have years of work ahead of me if I want to play every piece in here, I am glad that I picked it. The piano part is scored extremely well. I doubt this is what Mr. Hornsby plays (especially having seen him live a few times), especially during the parts where there is full instrumentation and vocals. But the piano solos are scored quite close, and they are fun to play. I have not yet tuned my piano after its most recent move, and with a slightly out of tune turn of the century upright, these songs sound amazing as written. For beginners, some of the intros are pretty easy, and the melody line can be easily picked out. A good overall investment, in my view.

Bulbs of North America
Published in Hardcover by Timber Pr (September, 2001)
Average review score:

Descriptive information identifying the various speciesThe North American Rock Garden Society is an organization of amateur botanists and gardeners drawn from around the world who are devoted to all aspects of the plant species grown in rock gardens. This unique horticultural society commissioned Jane McGary to compile a wealth of contributions from expert contributors to present a comprehensive reference on North American bulbous plants that would be suited to the geographical ranges, soil varieties, and moisture regimes found throughout North America. In addition to descriptive information identifying the various species, practical information is provided for growing these plants from seed, as well as tips for viewing them in the wild. Superbly enhanced with more than one hundred full color photographs, Bulbs Of North America is a core addition to any personal, professional, academic, or community library horticultural and gardening reference collection.

Burt Bacharach & Hal David
Published in Paperback by Collector's Guide Pub (January, 2003)
Average review score:

The One and Only - Bacharach in PrintEven though they were one of the greatest songwriting teams of the 1960's, there's never been a book written about Bacharach and David. "Burt Bacharach & Hal David: What the World Needs Now" is the first. It is full of strong archival material and includes Platts' interviews with Burt and Hal, plus many artists, including Dionne Warwick, Gene Pitney, and B.J. Thomas. The book is a detailed wealth of information of this songwriting team's body of work. A must read for Bacharach/David fans, musicians and music historians. The book tells the complete story of Bacharach and David's songwriting partnership, from the 1950s to their reunion in the 90s. The book includes color photos of record sleeves, a detailed discography, chart information and a comprehensive list of every song Bacharach and David wrote together. Robin Platts' style of writing is comfortable and concise. As a songwriter myself, I was inspired by this book.

One Book Thats AllIf you want only one book for minerals, rocks and fossils this is the one. Covers what you really find in the field instead of only the best or rarest stuff. I give it a 5.

WE KNOW SO LITTLE ABOUT FREE BLACK WOMEN IN THE SOUTH AND THESE LETTERS AND DIARIES BRING TO LIFE A NEGLECTED CHAPTER OF OUR HISTORY AND THEIR EXPERIENCE.....PLUS THE DIARY OF THIS YOUNG BLACK WOMAN DURING THE CIVIL WAR IS A COMPELLING HISTORICAL VOICE. THE EDITOR HAS DONE A TERRIFIC JOB SETTING THESE VOICES IN CONTEXT SO WE CAN ONCE AGAIN HEAR THEIR STORIES AND READ THE WORDS OF LOST BLACK WOMEN FROM THE PAST.

Chartbreaker
Published in School & Library Binding by Holiday House (April, 1987)
Average review score:

Fantastic, Realistic, and EngrossingThis book made even me want to join a rock group. The story of Janis' escape from her boring existence and subsequent capultation to fame is a modern fairy tale of escaping the grind. This combined with Janis' pain and confusion in her relationship with her mother and her adoption of Christie's depressed mother made this book one of my all-time favorities..even at age 19 :()
